Trends in Home Security Systems

Security System

Just as consumers demand better defenses against criminals who target their homes, so must the technology in home security systems keep pace. Industry experts assert that the home defense system technology available now, as well as what will be available in the near future, focuses on two main goals: making homes safer and giving homeowners peace of mind. As the rapid evolution of technology takes place, there are some advances that are already fulfilling both of these goals.

With the popularity explosion of all thing i-related, came an application for managing a home alarm system. Alarm.com released an iPhone app that lets users of compatible systems manage their entire home security system, from arming/disarming the system, to watching live and recorded video feeds. Not to be outdone, iControl allows users to control not only their home alarm system, but also the lighting, temperature, and locks as well. It is just mobile solutions such as these that are changing the way that homeowners are viewing what's available in home security.

The concept of creating a "smart home" solution is gaining momentum on a daily basis. Being able to remotely control different parts of a home through the use of a wireless device allows for enhanced peace of mind for the homeowner - be it a stay-at-home parent or frequent-flyer business executive. By the same token, having one unified system also increases the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the home's system.

The bottom line is that people want to feel secure in their chosen home, which usually accounts for the largest purchase most people make in their lives. As such, it's easy to put a price tag on purchases within the home, but more difficult to put a price on peace of mind, which is just what the home security industry banks on.
